To Hong Kong And Back: Escape Lounge Stansted Airport, London

After a brief day in London, where we dined on some Greek cuisine and checked out the new-ish, SkyGarden, it was time to head to Stansted Airport where our RyanAir flight awaited. And, luckily enough, there was a lounge to wait in as well!

The Sky Garden in Central London

Getting to Stansted is pretty easy from Central London. It’s even simple to do from London Heathrow. We took the London Underground into Central London, then made our way to Liverpool Station after we were done walking around for the day to catch the next train to Stansted.

The train took about 40 minutes to arrive at the airport, and it’s as simple as walking to your check-in area after that.

Check In at Stansted

We had a carry-on bag that we elected to pay for in advance on RyanAir. This saved us about $20 over doing it later on in the booking process or at the airport. Check in was easy, as we self-tagged our bags and facilitated the whole process ourselves.

Security was quick, and once we were inside the gate area, it took about 10 minutes to walk through the snaking duty free area to find the Escape Lounge. Seriously, this was the most shops I’d seen in an airport in quite some time!

The lounge was pretty busy, but we were seated right away, after I showed them my Priority Pass. I get my Priority Pass from several cards, but I use the one connected to my Chase Sapphire Reserve because it allows for unlimited guests.

Inside, there was a simple bar area, as well as some savory meat pies and cold snacks. Overall, the food quality was good, if a little carb-heavy. We were trying to get ahead of jet lag, so we didn’t try out the bar.

There are a number of free alcoholic drinks available, and if you wanted something name brand, you could have it, for a price.

We spent about two hours in the lounge before our flight, and enjoyed our time! The wifi was quick, and if there’s one gripe, I would say that the lounge is rather depressingly located in the basement of the terminal, and that there are no restrooms in the lounge. Expectedly, it was very busy, but the staff handled the rush very well.
