BOTTOM LINE
The Andaz 5th Avenue is my favorite Hyatt in New York City: a design-forward luxury hotel directly across from Bryant Park and the New York Public Library, with loft-style rooms and one of the best Globalist breakfasts in the city. It suits travelers who want a stylish Midtown base and want to put World of Hyatt points and elite perks to work. The catch is that a great Andaz redemption in Manhattan is not cheap on points, so plan ahead.
I stay in New York often, and across all the Hyatt options in the city, the Andaz 5th Avenue is the one I keep coming back to. It has the location, the design, and the Globalist perks all lined up, which is a hard combination to beat in Midtown. On this trip I toured the Andaz Suite and enjoyed the breakfast that keeps this hotel at the top of my list.
On the same trip I also stayed a couple of nights at The Time New York, where I confirmed a One Bedroom King Suite using Suite Night Awards as a Globalist. That is a solid alternate if the Andaz is booked, but the Andaz 5th Avenue is the star, so let me focus there.
Booking the Andaz 5th Avenue
The Andaz 5th Avenue is a World of Hyatt property, and it sits in one of the higher points categories, which is fair for a luxury hotel in the heart of Manhattan. Award nights here can deliver strong value against sky-high Midtown cash rates, but you will want to book in advance to lock in the redemption you want. I would check both the points cost and the current cash rate before deciding how to pay, since the math shifts by date.
The Globalist benefits are where this hotel really pays off. As a Globalist I had complimentary breakfast, which is excellent here, plus late checkout and the chance at a space-available upgrade. Andaz properties also lean into a relaxed luxury style, and Suite Night Awards can come into play if you are chasing a bigger room.
Best cards for booking
To get the most from a stay here, the cards I would reach for are the World of Hyatt Credit Card, Chase Sapphire Preferred, and Chase Sapphire Reserve.
Location
The location is a big part of why I love this hotel. It sits right on 5th Avenue across from Bryant Park and the New York Public Library, which puts you in the center of Midtown with green space at your doorstep. You are walking distance to Times Square, the theater district, Grand Central, and countless restaurants and shops.
Having Bryant Park directly across the street gives the hotel a calmer, more grounded feel than a lot of Midtown properties. You can step out for a coffee, grab a bench, and watch the city move, which is a nice contrast to the energy just a few blocks over.
Lobby and Check-In
The Andaz check-in experience is intentionally different from a standard hotel. Instead of a traditional front desk, hosts greet you and check you in personally, often on a tablet, which sets a relaxed and personal tone from the start. It feels boutique in the best way. This was one of the very first Andaz hotels to open, and the touches still land: an evening wine happy hour, a little extension of the library right in the lobby, and art beside the elevators created by local high school students — a nice nod to the neighborhood.
The ground-floor spaces are understated and design-driven rather than flashy, matching the Andaz brand's low-key luxury approach. As a Globalist, my status was acknowledged and the whole arrival felt smooth and welcoming.
The Room
I toured the Andaz Suite, and the rooms here are a real highlight. The signature look is loft-inspired, with tall ceilings, big windows, and lots of natural light that make the spaces feel open and residential rather than boxy. It is a refreshing change from the cramped rooms you often get in Manhattan.
The suite offered a comfortable separate living area and the kind of thoughtful, modern design the brand is known for. Even the standard rooms here feel generous by New York standards, so an upgrade or a suite makes an already strong room type feel special. This is a room I am happy to spend time in, not just sleep in. We burned a suite upgrade award here and were handed an absolutely massive suite — technically an ADA room, which meant a gigantic living room flooded with natural light but also no door on the bathroom, an adventure with a toddler on the loose. The style leans dark woods and a low-slung bed — slightly dated, but in a way I actually like — and the details deliver: custom toiletries made by a local barbershop partner just for the Andaz, a Dyson hair dryer, a separate toilet room with a real door, robes and slippers, and free Andaz minibar snacks including Lay’s and custom chocolate bars. My one real gripe carried over from the bedroom: no door on the shower either, which makes it tough to stay warm.
Pools and Amenities
This is an urban luxury hotel, so there is no resort pool here, which is standard for Manhattan. What you get instead is a fitness center and the polished, design-driven common spaces that define the Andaz experience. The property is more about style and location than sprawling amenities. The basement gym deserves a callout, though — genuinely spacious by New York City standards, with Peloton bikes (earn your Peloton partnership points!) and even a Tonal machine.
For a city stay, that is the right set of priorities. You are not coming to New York to sit by a pool, so the hotel leans into what matters here: great rooms, a great location, and a strong food and beverage program.
Food and Drink
The Andaz 5th Avenue has an on-site restaurant and bar that handles breakfast through dinner, with an open-kitchen setup that keeps the room lively. The food and beverage program fits the hotel's polished, contemporary feel.
The Globalist breakfast is the piece I want to call out. It is excellent here, and having a quality breakfast included in one of the priciest food markets in the country is a real perk. Starting the day well fed before heading out into Midtown is a big part of why I rate this hotel so highly.
Service
Service is where the Andaz brand shines, and this property lives up to it. The personal check-in, attentive hosts, and relaxed-but-polished attitude make the whole stay feel more human than a big corporate hotel. As a Globalist, I felt recognized and looked after throughout.
It is the kind of service that makes you want to return, which is exactly why this is my go-to Hyatt in the city. The team here clearly understands what elite guests and repeat visitors are looking for.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the Andaz 5th Avenue located?
It is on 5th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, directly across from Bryant Park and the New York Public Library. That puts you within walking distance of Times Square, Grand Central, and the theater district.
Is the Andaz 5th Avenue a good Hyatt redemption?
It is a higher-category World of Hyatt property, so it costs a good number of points, but award nights can beat expensive Midtown cash rates. Book ahead to secure the redemption you want.
How is the Globalist breakfast?
Excellent. As a Globalist, breakfast was included, and it is one of my favorite parts of staying here given how pricey breakfast can be in New York. For me the Globalist breakfast was the single highlight of the hotel: order it through room service (or eat the identical menu down at the bar), and by the end of our five-night stay the tab had crossed $600–700 — every dollar of it waived at checkout. And when you want a break from hotel dining, Joe’s Pizza is close enough that we made the pilgrimage one evening.
What are the rooms like?
The rooms have a loft-inspired design with tall ceilings, large windows, and abundant natural light, which makes them feel more spacious and residential than typical Manhattan hotel rooms. I toured the Andaz Suite on this stay.
How does check-in work at an Andaz?
Instead of a traditional front desk, hosts check you in personally, often on a tablet, which sets a relaxed, boutique tone from the moment you arrive.
Is there an alternative Hyatt nearby?
On the same trip I stayed at The Time New York, where I confirmed a One Bedroom King Suite using Suite Night Awards as a Globalist. It is a good backup, but the Andaz 5th Avenue remains my top pick.
Bottom Line
The Andaz 5th Avenue earns its place as my favorite Hyatt in New York. The loft-style rooms, the Bryant Park location, the personal service, and that excellent Globalist breakfast come together into a stay I look forward to every time.
If you have World of Hyatt points and want a stylish, well-located Midtown base, this is where I would point you first. Book early to lock in a good redemption, lean on your Globalist perks, and enjoy one of the best hotel experiences the program offers in the city.
