Hyatt Place Los Cabos Review: The 5,000-Point Cabo Deal I Keep Recommending

‍ ‍

BOTTOM LINE

The Hyatt Place Los Cabos is a Category 1 World of Hyatt hotel, which means award nights start around 3,500 points off-peak and land near 5,000 points standard. Free breakfast, a pool with a bar, and a walkable-to-the-beach location make it one of the best points values in Cabo. I book it as a smart, low-cost first night, especially with the Hyatt Ziva right across the street.

‍ ‍

Not every hotel needs to be a splashy resort to earn a spot in my rotation. Sometimes the smartest booking is a clean, well-run property that costs almost nothing in points and puts you exactly where you need to be. The Hyatt Place Los Cabos is one of those hotels.

‍ ‍

I reach for this one when I arrive in Cabo late, or when I want to bank a cheap night before moving into a bigger resort. At around 5,000 World of Hyatt points, it delivers value that is hard to beat in a market where beachfront rooms run into the hundreds of dollars. Let me walk you through why it works.

‍ ‍

Booking the Hyatt Place Los Cabos

‍ ‍

This is a Category 1 property in the World of Hyatt program, which is the cheapest tier there is. Standard award nights sit around 5,000 points, with off-peak dates dropping to roughly 3,500 points and peak dates near 6,500. Cash rates are affordable too, but the points redemption is where this hotel shines. Funny enough, on the stay in the video I could not even use points — we arrived the day before New Year’s Eve, everything nearby was sold out, and I paid over $200 a night in cash. That experience made the usual 5,000-point award feel like even more of a steal, especially with the all-inclusive Hyatt Ziva across the street costing 20,000 points a night.

‍ ‍

Because free breakfast is included for everyone, you do not need Globalist status to get a good deal here. World of Hyatt points also transfer in from Chase Ultimate Rewards at a one-to-one ratio, which is how a lot of travelers fund these stays. That transfer partnership is why the right cards matter so much for a Hyatt trip.

‍ ‍

Best cards for booking

To get the most from a stay here, the cards I would reach for are the World of Hyatt Credit Card, Chase Sapphire Preferred, and Chase Sapphire Reserve.

‍ ‍

Location

‍ ‍

The Hyatt Place sits in a convenient part of Los Cabos within walking distance of the beach, which already sets it apart from a typical airport-adjacent select-service hotel. From Los Cabos International Airport, plan on roughly a 20 to 30 minute transfer depending on traffic and your exact destination. I usually arrange private transportation, since prices vary and it beats sorting out a ride after a long flight.

‍ ‍

The property's biggest strategic advantage is its neighborhood. The Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos, an all-inclusive resort, sits right across the street, so this makes a great staging point if you are moving into the Ziva or want to be near that stretch. You are close to the action without paying resort prices for your arrival night.

‍ ‍

Cabo splits roughly into two hubs, the lively marina and town of Cabo San Lucas and the quieter, more upscale San Jose del Cabo, with a corridor of resorts strung between them. The Hyatt Place sits in a practical spot for reaching either, so you are not stranded on one end. I like being able to grab a rideshare into town for dinner and be back at the hotel in short order.

‍ ‍

Lobby and Check-In

‍ ‍

The lobby follows the familiar, functional Hyatt Place formula, which is a feature when you land late and just want a smooth check-in. Staff were friendly and efficient, and the whole process was quick even after an evening arrival. There is no resort-fee circus to decode here, which I appreciate.

‍ ‍

As a World of Hyatt member, this is the moment to ask about any available room upgrades, since select-service properties will sometimes accommodate. The layout is easy to navigate, so you are up to your room and settled in without a long trek. For a first-night landing pad, that simplicity is exactly what I want.

‍ ‍

The Room

‍ ‍

Hyatt Place rooms follow a familiar and reliable formula, and that consistency is a feature, not a knock. Expect a spacious room with a separate seating area, a large bed, a mini-fridge, and a big TV. Everything is modern, clean, and set up for a comfortable night of rest. Our room was on the fourth floor overlooking the water, and it gave me one of the best views I have ever had from a Hyatt Place anywhere. Otherwise it is the familiar formula — the same layout you would recognize from any US Hyatt Place, spotlessly clean with no wear that I could find, a tub-and-curtain shower that works well for families, and a mini fridge that came in handy for leftovers from the excellent Mexican restaurants nearby.

‍ ‍

You will not find lavish suites or ocean-view balconies here, and that is fine given the points cost. What you get is a dependable, well-equipped room that does the job whether you land at midnight or want a quiet base for a couple of nights. The value here is about the whole package, not any single wow moment in the room.

‍ ‍

One thing I appreciate about the Hyatt Place layout is the separate living area, which gives you somewhere to sit that is not the bed. After a long travel day, that little bit of space matters more than you would think. It also makes the room workable if you have kids who need to settle down while you stay up a while longer.

‍ ‍

Pools and Amenities

‍ ‍

Two things make this Hyatt Place feel more resort than roadside. The first is a pool with a bar that overlooks the coastline, which gives the property a vacation feel you do not usually get at this brand. It is a small pool, not a sprawling resort complex, but it is a pleasant spot for a drink and some sun. When I toured it, the exterior was under some construction — they were resurfacing parts of the property after a hurricane had come through — but the pool itself had plenty of nice chairs, and honestly I do not think it would feel crowded even with the hotel sold out. The gym next door is standard Hyatt Place fare: a simple room with a few weight racks if you need to keep up a routine.

‍ ‍

Round that out with a fitness center, reliable WiFi, and the easygoing service you expect from the brand, and you have a comfortable base. The pool bar is the detail that surprises people the most. At a lot of select-service hotels, the pool is an afterthought squeezed between the parking lot and the gym, but here the coastline view and the bar service turn it into a place you actually want to spend an afternoon.

‍ ‍‍ ‍

Food and Drink

‍ ‍

The free breakfast is one of my favorite reasons to book Hyatt Place hotels. You get fresh fruit, pastries, and hot items included with every stay, no elite status required. Starting the day fed and caffeinated without opening your wallet stretches your budget nicely. The food setup punches above the brand, as I note in the video: the to-go counter is open 24/7 for late arrivals, breakfast is a clear upgrade over any US Hyatt Place I have stayed at — think chilaquiles and fajitas rather than sad pastries — and the lobby bar pours through the afternoons and evenings. There is even a small spa on site, which you almost never see at this brand.

‍ ‍

The breakfast really changes the value math. Two people eating a free breakfast every morning can easily offset a chunk of what you would otherwise spend. Stack that on top of a low points rate, and the daily cost of this hotel gets very hard to beat.

‍ ‍

Beyond breakfast, the pool bar handles drinks and light bites with that coastline view. For dinner, a quick rideshare into Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo opens up a full range of restaurants. The on-site food is a convenient anchor rather than the main event.

‍ ‍

Service

‍ ‍

Service here is the easygoing, reliable style you expect from the brand, and it fits the role this hotel plays in a trip. The staff kept check-in quick, the breakfast running, and the pool bar staffed, which is all I ask from a first-night base. Nothing was fancy, and nothing needed to be.

‍ ‍

If you hold World of Hyatt status, apply your usual perks and ask about upgrades. Even without status, the free breakfast levels the field, so everyone gets a good deal. For the points cost, the service punches above its category.

‍ ‍

Frequently Asked Questions

‍ ‍

How many points is the Hyatt Place Los Cabos?

It is a Category 1 World of Hyatt hotel, so award nights run about 3,500 points off-peak, 5,000 points standard, and 6,500 points peak.

‍ ‍

Is breakfast free at Hyatt Place Los Cabos?

Yes. Complimentary breakfast with fresh fruit, pastries, and hot items is included for all guests, no elite status required.

‍ ‍

Is the hotel on the beach?

It is within walking distance of the beach rather than directly on it. You can walk down to the sand, then return to the pool and bar at the hotel. If you can, time your stay for the weekly Art Walk in town — it is a fun evening out and one of my favorite things to do in the area, with the beach itself just a few blocks from the hotel.

‍ ‍

How far is it from the airport?

Plan on roughly a 20 to 30 minute drive from Los Cabos International Airport, depending on traffic and your exact destination. Private transfer prices vary.

‍ ‍

Is it near the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos?

Yes, the all-inclusive Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos is right across the street, which makes this a handy staging point.

‍ ‍

Is there a pool?

There is a small pool with a bar overlooking the coastline, which gives the property more of a resort feel than a standard Hyatt Place.

‍ ‍

Bottom Line

‍ ‍

The Hyatt Place Los Cabos earns its place in my playbook by doing a few things very well at a very low cost. Free breakfast, a nice little pool, a walkable location, and award nights as cheap as 3,500 points add up to real value. It is the definition of a smart booking.

‍ ‍

Use it as a first-night base or a budget anchor within a bigger Cabo trip, and save your splurge for a resort later. In a market where prices climb fast, having a reliable low-points option is worth a lot. If you want beachfront luxury, look at my other Cabo reviews, but for smart value, this is the one.
