Hyatt Regency Orange County Tour + Review

The Hyatt Regency Orange County is located right near Disneyland in Garden Grove, California. It’s right on the border of Anaheim, California, making it technically walking distance from Disneyland (though it’s about a 30 minute walk at least). I booked this hotel for the convenience to the Anaheim Convention Center during the D23 Expo 2022.

Booking

This hotel was pretty reasonably priced, at about $180 per night, or 9,000 World of Hyatt points. I opted to use points for my four night stay, where I also received free parking (a $25 per night value) and free breakfast with my Globalist status. I also pre-booked a “Kid’s Suite” with a Tier Suite Upgrade with my Globalist concierge before my stay. I liked this suite because I was sharing my room with my sister, and the extra beds in the other part of the room were most convenient.

Check In

I used mobile check in, and I was informed my room was ready in the morning of my check in day. I wanted to get a key, so a quick stop by the desk was necessary. It was explained how breakfast worked at the property (in Tusca each morning, buffet only), and I was on my way.

The Room

You can check the property tour above for what the room looked like, but overall, it was quite dated for a Hyatt property. I felt that the furniture in the room needed a lot of updating, the bathroom especially. One major issue I had with my room in the North Tower of the property were the room doors at night, which would clamor shut whenever anyone left a room in the hall. You could hear every one of those throughout the night, preventing a good night’s rest. Housekeeping did a great job with the room, keeping it tidy while I was out of the room each day.

The Property (Restaurants, Pools, Gym)

Compared to other properties in the Anaheim Resort area, I feel like the Hyatt has a lot to offer. For one, there are three restaurants in the lobby- a Starbucks, Tusca (for the breakfast buffet), and OC Brewhouse for lunch and evening hours. The Starbucks offers mobile ordering, making it super convenient for those skipping off to the parks early in the morning. I’ve stayed here in the past, and I felt like the breakfast buffet quality has dipped a bit. The OC Brewhouse had great beers and a good burger (featured in the video).

For other amenities, the property has two pools, a hot tub, two pickleball courts, ping pong, shuffleboard, and bocce ball, as well as a pretty large gym. This is a lot compared to other Disneyland hotels. The property also offers a shuttle to the parks, which is great considering other properties in the area have a paid shuttle.

Overall

Even though I love my benefits with Hyatt, and the price was outstanding, I’ll probably stay somewhere else next time I’m in Anaheim. My room was just too dated, and my sleep too interrupted, to give it another shot in the near term.
