BOTTOM LINE

The Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is one of the most dramatic luxury resorts in Mexico, carved into a Baja cliff in the private Pedregal community and reached through a lit tunnel bored straight through the mountain. It suits travelers who want top-tier service, a private plunge pool, and standout dining, and who are ready to pay for it. You can book with Hilton Honors points or, for a stay with breakfast and a resort credit, through my agency's luxury program.

‍ ‍

Cabo San Lucas has a lot of big all-inclusives and beach resorts, but the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is something else. It sits inside Pedregal, a gated community on the rocky headland at the very tip of Baja, and the only way in is through a private tunnel drilled through the mountain and lit by chandeliers. Rolling through that tunnel is the kind of arrival that tells you what sort of stay you are in for.

‍ ‍

This is an ultra-luxury property with a long-standing reputation for cliffside rooms, some of the best service in Mexico, and prices to match. I want to walk through what makes it special, where the value is, and how to book it, so you can decide if it belongs on your list.

‍ ‍

‍ ‍

Booking the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal

‍ ‍

This is a Hilton property and has been part of Hilton Honors since 2019, which makes it one of the more interesting luxury redemptions in the portfolio. It is a popular target for both Hilton points and Hilton free night certificates because the cash rates here run very high, so points can stretch a long way when award pricing lines up. Standard award nights use points, and rates and points levels move with the season, so run the numbers for your dates before you commit.

‍ ‍

The other way to book is through a luxury travel program. As a travel advisor, I can book eligible stays here through Hilton's luxury channel, which typically layers in perks like daily breakfast for two, a property or resort credit, and a possible upgrade and early check-in or late checkout when available. If you are paying a cash rate anyway, booking through that channel gets you those extras at no additional cost. Note the resort also has a mandatory service or resort charge, so factor that in either way.

‍ ‍

Best cards for booking

To get the most from a stay here, the cards I would reach for are the Hilton Honors Aspire Card from American Express, Hilton Honors Surpass, and The Platinum Card from American Express.

‍ ‍

Location

‍ ‍

The resort occupies its own stretch of cliff and beach inside Pedregal, on the Pacific-facing headland near Land's End and Lover's Beach at the southern tip of Baja. Once you clear the tunnel, the property feels sealed off from the rest of Cabo, tucked between the mountains and the ocean with rooms terraced down the cliffside toward the water. It is quiet and private in a way that most Cabo resorts are not.

‍ ‍

You are only a few minutes from the marina and the nightlife of downtown Cabo San Lucas when you want it, which is part of the appeal. You get seclusion at the resort and easy access to town whenever you feel like leaving. For a lot of guests, though, the temptation is to never leave at all.

‍ ‍

Lobby and Check-In

‍ ‍

Arrival is a production in the best sense. After the tunnel, you are met at an open-air reception with sweeping views out over the pools and the Pacific, and check-in is handled personally rather than at a busy counter. The sense of place hits you immediately. Nothing prepares you for it: imposing gates, then the resort’s own private tunnel chiseled straight under the mountain, which I would rank as the most impressive hotel entrance I have experienced anywhere on Earth. A welcome cocktail lands in your hand while formalities happen around you, and the beach beyond feels genuinely hidden, disconnected from the rest of Cabo San Lucas with barely any traffic.

‍ ‍

The service culture here is a big part of the brand, and it shows from the first minute. Staff learn your name quickly and the pace is calm and unhurried. It sets the tone for a stay where the details are looked after.

‍ ‍

The Room

‍ ‍

The rooms are a highlight, and many of them come with a private plunge pool on the terrace along with ocean views, which is exactly the kind of thing you come to a place like this for. The design is warm and Mexican-modern, with natural materials, generous space, and terraces built to make the most of the cliffside setting. Even the entry-level rooms feel special. On our most recent stay the rooms had been refreshed a bit, and it showed. Our suite had two patios, and the resort even provides binoculars so you can scan the water for whales in season, along with the cruise ships and the occasional pirate ship heading out of the marina. One note if you book a room high on the property: our building sat at the very top, so there were a few extra steps between us and the main pool and restaurants.

‍ ‍

Categories climb from there up to large suites and multi-bedroom villas for groups or families who want more room to spread out. Waking up on a private terrace with a plunge pool and the Pacific in front of you is the signature Pedregal experience. It is worth stretching for a room with that plunge pool if your budget allows. We were there for my wife’s birthday, and as returning guests the property handed us the best upgrade I have ever received: a 2,800 square foot two-bedroom suite with its own private plunge pool, three bathrooms, a full kitchen clearly built for a private chef, and, gloriously for a family, a washer and dryer. Every room here has a plunge pool and a welcome bottle of tequila, and every afternoon at 4 pm the included amenity arrived, cold beers and some of the best guacamole of the trip.

‍ ‍

Pools and Amenities

‍ ‍

Beyond the in-room plunge pools, the resort has multiple infinity pools terraced along the cliff, plus one of the few swimmable beaches in the Cabo San Lucas area, which is a real rarity on this stretch of Pacific coast where riptides keep most beaches for looking rather than swimming. There are beach cabanas, attentive poolside service, and plenty of quiet corners to disappear into. The landscaping deserves its own mention: a faux river runs through the heart of the property down to the family pools, fed by fountains and lined with barrel cacti, and it looks so natural you would never guess it is man-made. I watched staff on their hands and knees making tiny adjustments to individual agave plants during our stay. If you want to stay active, head back through the tunnel to the front of the resort, where pickleball courts and a tennis court sit on top of the parking structure.

‍ ‍

The spa is a destination in its own right, with treatments drawing on local traditions and the natural setting. Between the pools, the beach, the spa, and simply the views, there is more than enough to fill several days without leaving. This is a resort built for slowing down. Finding the spa is easy: just look for the distinctive dome structure, which you can spot from all around the resort. There is a beautiful pool at the spa itself, and the adult pools begin right next door, with a handful of beachfront rooms sprinkled along that stretch that rank among the most expensive on property.

‍ ‍‍ ‍

Food and Drink

‍ ‍

Dining is one of the resort's calling cards, and the headliner is El Farallon, a seafood restaurant carved into the cliff with the waves crashing below you as you eat. It is a sea-to-table menu in a setting that is hard to top, and there is a daytime Champagne Terrace ritual with sparkling wine and seafood pairings. It is the kind of meal people plan a trip around. Don Manuel’s is the anchor restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and an honest heads up for Hilton Diamonds: the buffet upgrade that used to be free now runs 25 dollars per person on top of the free continental, and it is still worth every peso for the Mexican spread alone. Watch the water while you eat; we caught a whale between the passing ships. Dinner runs about 150 dollars a person with a drink or two, the service is a ten out of ten, and yes, coconut cocktails occasionally make the rounds. Getting to El Farallon is half the fun: the path follows the cliffs through a bit of a maze, past beautiful stairwells, art, perfectly manicured sand, and sculptures of the sea turtles that visit the coastline. Farallon actually means cliff in Spanish, which makes sense once you see the setting. Before dinner you can stop at the champagne terrace and bar, and the menu leans into seafood with a raw bar and oysters.

‍ ‍

Beyond El Farallon, the resort has additional restaurants covering Mexican cuisine and casual beachside dining, and the culinary program here has earned real recognition. If you book through the luxury channel with breakfast included, that takes the edge off at least one meal a day. Dining here is not cheap, but it is a genuine part of the experience rather than an afterthought. Do not miss the Agave Study, the resort’s spin on the classic Waldorf Astoria Peacock Alley, which focuses on high-end tequilas. There is also a beach bar dug right into the sand where bonfires are lit in the evenings, and turndown service ends the night with candles in your room and a few of the amenity items available for purchase in the gift shop if you fall in love with them.

‍ ‍

Service

‍ ‍

Service is where the Pedregal earns its reputation. This is a resort that consistently ranks among the best in the world for hospitality, and the staff-to-guest ratio and personal attention back that up. Requests are handled quietly and quickly, and the team seems to anticipate what you need before you ask.

‍ ‍

That level of care is a big part of what you are paying for at a property like this. For a special-occasion trip, an anniversary, a honeymoon, a milestone birthday, that polish makes a real difference. It is the kind of service that keeps guests coming back.

Frequently Asked Questions

‍ ‍

Is the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal a Hilton hotel?

Yes. It is a Waldorf Astoria, Hilton's luxury flagship brand, and has been part of Hilton Honors since 2019, so you can earn and redeem Hilton points and use free night certificates here.

‍ ‍

What is the tunnel at the Pedregal?

The resort is reached through a private tunnel bored through the mountain and lit inside, which is the only way in and out. It is one of the most memorable resort arrivals in Mexico.

‍ ‍

Do the rooms have private pools?

Many rooms come with a private plunge pool on the terrace along with ocean views. Higher categories add more space up to large suites and multi-bedroom villas.

‍ ‍

Can you swim at the beach?

Yes. The resort has one of the few swimmable beaches in the Cabo San Lucas area, which is unusual on this stretch of Pacific coast where strong currents make most beaches unsafe for swimming.

‍ ‍

Is the Pedregal worth the price?

For a special-occasion trip where service, dining, and setting matter most, a lot of guests feel it is worth it. If you want value or an all-inclusive, there are better-matched options in Cabo.

‍ ‍

How do I get breakfast and a resort credit included?

Booking an eligible cash stay through Hilton's luxury travel channel, which I can do as an advisor, typically adds daily breakfast for two, a property credit, and other perks at no extra cost.

‍ ‍

Bottom Line

‍ ‍

The Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is Cabo luxury at its most dramatic. Between the tunnel arrival, the cliffside rooms with plunge pools, the swimmable beach, and dining like El Farallon, it delivers an experience that few resorts in Mexico can match. The service is the glue that holds it all together and keeps guests loyal.

‍ ‍

It is not cheap, and it is not the place for a rowdy spring-break crowd. But for a honeymoon, an anniversary, or any trip where you want to be pampered in a spectacular setting, it is hard to beat. Book it with Hilton points when the math works, or through the luxury channel for breakfast and a credit, and let me know if you want help pricing it out.
