BOTTOM LINE
Dreams Cozumel Cape Resort & Spa sits in Cozumel's southern hotel zone with a reef you can snorkel straight off the property, a lively swim-up bar, and food that tasted great every time I ate. My visit off a cruise ship did not live up to the Dreams name, though. The room I was given showed heavy wear, much of the beach sand has washed away, most of the pools face inward instead of toward the Caribbean, and the entire resort lost power during our stay. As a World of Hyatt Globalist who has visited hundreds of Hyatt properties, I left disappointed, and on my next Cozumel port day I would pick a beach club or a different resort.

Booking Dreams Cozumel Cape With Points or Cash
Dreams Cozumel Cape is part of the Hyatt Inclusive Collection, which means you can earn World of Hyatt points and elite night credits on paid stays and book award nights with points. The resort is Category C on Hyatt's all-inclusive award chart, and because Hyatt now prices those categories with off-peak, standard, and peak rates, check the live points price in the Hyatt app before you transfer anything. I broke down how the chart works in my post on the World of Hyatt award chart changes for 2026.
My Globalist status helped when I contacted the resort about a day visit, though the day room itself was the luck of the draw. Hyatt ran a grand reopening sale for Dreams Cozumel Cape in 2026 after redesigning the Preferred Club, so cash rates can swing quite a bit depending on promotions.
Pro Tip: Paid rates and points rates do not always move together on Inclusive Collection resorts. I price both for every client before we book. If you want me to run the numbers on Dreams Cozumel Cape against Secrets Aura or another Cozumel all-inclusive, request a free quote through my agency.
Getting to Dreams Cozumel Cape From the Cozumel Cruise Ports
Cozumel welcomes dozens of cruise ships every week, and your cruise line decides which of the island's three piers you use. Disney Cruise Line docked us at Punta Langosta on our recent sailing, which is the pier closest to downtown San Miguel. Carnival most often uses Puerta Maya, and Royal Caribbean typically uses the International Pier. Puerta Maya and the International Pier sit a little closer to the southern hotel zone, so ships at those two piers get a shorter ride to resorts and beach clubs.
From Punta Langosta, our taxi to Dreams Cozumel Cape took about 15 minutes and cost $25. I did not haggle much, but bargaining is normal in Cozumel and you can often get a lower fare if you skip the first price you hear. If you are flying in for a longer stay, the resort is roughly 10 miles from Cozumel International Airport.

Dreams Cozumel Cape Day Pass and Check-In
I booked our visit directly with the hotel instead of going through a day pass website. Working with the resort let me negotiate a day room along with full access to the property for our whole time ashore, which made a big difference traveling with a young child who needed a nap.
The open-air lobby looked sharp and set a good first impression. Check-in was simple, and we headed to the room shortly after arriving.
Pro Tip: If you want a day room on a port day, contact Dreams Cozumel Cape directly a few weeks before your cruise. Third-party day pass sites usually sell pool and beach access only, and the resort has more flexibility when you deal with them yourself.
The Suite at Dreams Cozumel Cape
The room was the biggest letdown of the visit, and it surprised me because I knew the resort had recently been redone. Walking into the bathroom, I first thought the mirrors and counters had some kind of unusual finish. On closer inspection they were simply dirty. The walk-in shower looked nice and the rest of the bathroom was fine.
The rest of the room showed a lot of wear. From a distance the furniture looked attractive, but up close I found cracked floor tiles and scratched furniture throughout. The room was also very dark. There were no bath amenities, which may have been because we were only there for the day. On the positive side, the room had a large television, a coffee machine, and a view over the pool area.
It is possible a day guest gets whichever room is free, and that room may have been one of the less renovated units. Even with that caveat, it was the weakest room I have experienced at a resort in Mexico.
Dreams Cozumel Cape Pools and the Preferred Club
The main pool with its swim-up bar was a highlight, and the bar service was quick. The pool appears to have been refreshed in the renovation while keeping roughly the same layout. On my earlier visit it had a slide and noticeably bluer water, and the slide is gone now.
Dreams Cozumel Cape has several pools, but most of them face inward toward the buildings rather than out to the Caribbean. You fly or sail all the way to Cozumel for that water, and the pool areas feel closed in. The new Preferred Club pool, with the Golondrina swim-up bar, looked like the nicest pool on property. You need a Preferred Club booking to use it.
The kids club also moved to the other side of the resort as part of the changes, so families should ask for directions at check-in.
Dreams Cozumel Cape Beach and Snorkeling
The beach looked very different from my last visit. Much of the sand appears to have washed away, leaving a rocky shoreline. The resort may replenish it at some point, but plan for rocks at the water's edge for now. The sand that remains is mostly around the loungers and does not continue into the ocean.
The reef just offshore is the resort's best feature. Snorkelers can walk in from the property and see marine life without booking a boat. With two young kids in tow we did not have time to trade off and snorkel, but it would be my first stop on a return visit.
Other beach highlights include the Sugar Reef beach bar with its popular swing seats, a small sand volleyball court, and a palapa where you can rent water equipment. I also liked the wooden boardwalks running from the pools down to the beach, lined with new plantings. That part of the resort felt polished, though most of the rooms are elsewhere on the property.
If you want a sandier beach or a guided snorkel trip for your port day, I keep a running list of Cozumel tours and beach clubs on Viator.
Restaurants at Dreams Cozumel Cape
As an all-inclusive, Dreams Cozumel Cape includes meals plus alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, whether you stay a week or visit for the day. Everything I tasted was delicious. The challenge was finding a casual lunch. We arrived around midday and asked a host where we could get tacos or a quesadilla, and there was no taco stand or casual grill near the pool. Staff eventually found cheese quesadillas for us on the Preferred Club buffet. The resort does have a Mexican restaurant, Tacoyotl, but it only opens for dinner.
The dining lineup at Dreams Cozumel Cape:
- World Café: the main international buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is small for a resort this size, but the food was very good.
- Bluewater: Mediterranean dishes and seafood on the second floor, with large windows facing the ocean. Breakfast at Bluewater is reserved for Preferred Club guests.
- Olio: an à la carte Mediterranean and seafood restaurant open for dinner, with a casual elegance dress code.
- Pizzeria: pastas and oven-baked pizzas for lunch and dinner.
- Tacoyotl: Mexican cuisine at dinner.
- Coco Café: specialty coffee, pastries, and ice cream.
Most of the dining venues overlook the beach and the ocean, which makes up for some of the inward-facing pools. Adults can also eat and drink at Secrets Aura Cozumel next door.
How Dreams Cozumel Cape Changed From Sunscape Sabor
When I arrived I realized I had visited this property before under a different name. Dreams Cozumel Cape opened in 2022 on part of the old Sunscape Sabor Cozumel complex, shortly after Hyatt bought Apple Leisure Group and its resort brands. Hyatt now lists 213 suites at Dreams Cozumel Cape, up from the 154 suites announced at opening, so more of the former Sunscape footprint has clearly been folded into Dreams.
On my earlier visit, during a port day on the Carnival Valor, I did not expect much from the Sunscape. It was inexpensive and one of the lower-tier all-inclusive brands in that portfolio. Dreams is positioned higher, as the family-friendly sister to Secrets, where kids are welcome.
After the conversion, the resort felt overly quiet and a bit stiff to me. I preferred the look of the old Sunscape, with its winding pathways. Some areas barely changed. The spa and gym are still upstairs near the porte-cochère, and the gym is well equipped with plenty of machines and free weights. Dreams also shares some facilities with Secrets Aura Cozumel next door, which expands what adults staying on either side can use.
Service and Problems During My Dreams Cozumel Cape Visit
We planned to stay longer, but the weather was gloomy for much of the day. It improved later in the afternoon, and then the entire resort lost power. While our child napped in the room, staff came in and out to spray for bugs. Individually, any one of these issues could happen anywhere. Together, they made for a frustrating day, and I was not impressed with the resort overall.
The staff we spoke with were friendly and tried to help, especially when tracking down lunch. The problems felt more like property and operations issues than individual service failures.
Dreams Cozumel Cape is a good fit if:
- You want an all-inclusive on Cozumel itself instead of on the mainland.
- Snorkeling straight from the beach is high on your list.
- You have Hyatt points to use and want to earn elite nights on a family trip.
- You are an adult who wants access to Secrets Aura Cozumel as well.
Look elsewhere if:
- A soft, sandy beach is your top priority.
- You want ocean views from the main pools.
- You are visiting on a cruise and only want a casual lunch and a beach chair.
Dreams Cozumel Cape vs. Other Cozumel and Mexico Resorts
If you want to use hotel points on Cozumel, the Westin Cozumel is the Marriott Bonvoy option on the island, with ocean-view rooms and a rooftop pool, though it is not all-inclusive. For a Hyatt all-inclusive on the mainland, Secrets Moxche and Impression Moxche in Playa del Carmen are a big step up, and they are a short ferry ride from Cozumel. If you like the Dreams brand for families, my Dreams Los Cabos review shows what a stronger Dreams experience looks like on the Pacific side.

Dreams Cozumel Cape Frequently Asked Questions
Can I book Dreams Cozumel Cape with World of Hyatt points?
Yes. Dreams Cozumel Cape is part of the Hyatt Inclusive Collection and sits in Category C on Hyatt's all-inclusive award chart. Award prices vary between off-peak, standard, and peak dates, so check the Hyatt app for your exact dates.
Can cruise passengers get a day pass at Dreams Cozumel Cape?
Yes. I booked directly with the resort and was able to add a day room to our day pass. Contact the resort ahead of your cruise, since day pass availability and pricing change with occupancy.
How far is Dreams Cozumel Cape from the cruise port?
Our taxi from Punta Langosta took about 15 minutes and cost $25. Puerta Maya and the International Pier are closer to the southern hotel zone, so the ride from those piers is shorter.
Is Dreams Cozumel Cape good for snorkeling?
Yes. A reef sits just off the resort's shoreline, and you can snorkel from the property. Expect a rocky entry, since much of the beach sand has washed away.
Is Dreams Cozumel Cape adults-only?
No. Dreams is Hyatt's family-friendly brand and welcomes kids. Adults staying at Dreams Cozumel Cape can also use the adults-only Secrets Aura Cozumel next door.
Was Dreams Cozumel Cape a Sunscape?
Dreams Cozumel Cape was built on part of the former Sunscape Sabor Cozumel complex, and the resort has since expanded to 213 suites. If you visited the Sunscape years ago, expect a quieter, more upscale feel with a different pool layout.
Is Dreams Cozumel Cape Worth It?
Dreams Cozumel Cape has a strong location for snorkelers, good food, and an easy taxi ride from the cruise piers. My visit was let down by a worn room, a rocky beach, inward-facing pools, and a power outage. For a port day, I would pick a beach club or one of the tours in my Cozumel excursions guide next time. For a longer stay, I would compare it carefully against Secrets Aura and the Riviera Maya resorts before booking.
