BOTTOM LINE
The Four Points by Sheraton LAX is one of the cheapest Marriott options near the airport, with a free shuttle, and it did the basic job for my one-night pre-cruise layover. It earns Bonvoy points and elite nights, but it is a budget crash pad, not a comfortable stay. Breakfast is paid with no free elite breakfast, and my room was not fully made up when I arrived. Fine for a quick overnight if your expectations are set right.
Not every hotel needs to be a resort. Sometimes you just need a bed near the airport before an early flight or a cruise, and the goal is simple: sleep, shower, and get to your gate or your ship without drama. That was exactly my situation before sailing out of the Port of Los Angeles, and the Four Points by Sheraton LAX was the cheap Marriott that fit the brief.
I want to be fair and clear about this one. It is not a bad hotel for what it is, but it is a no-frills budget property, and there were a couple of misses I noticed. If you book it knowing what it is, you will be fine. If you expect elite treatment, you may be let down.
Booking the Four Points by Sheraton LAX
This is a Marriott Bonvoy property, which is the main reason it landed on my list. It tends to be one of the lower-priced Marriott options in the LAX cluster, so if you are trying to keep a layover night cheap while still earning Bonvoy points and elite nights toward status, it makes sense. For a one-night stopover, banking a night toward next year's status counts for something.
Set your elite expectations honestly, though. This is a Four Points, a select-service brand, so there is no lounge and no complimentary elite breakfast. Breakfast here is paid, full stop. If free breakfast is part of why you chase Marriott status, you will not find it at this property, and that is worth knowing before you book rather than discovering it at the buffet. On my stay the restaurant downstairs was serving breakfast, but as a Platinum elite I could not redeem it. I got 500 points as my welcome benefit instead, which stung a little. That is your reward for being loyal to Bonvoy, I guess. For the record, my Platinum elite benefit here amounted to a whopping 500 points.
Best cards for booking
To get the most from a stay here, the cards I would reach for are the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless, Marriott Bonvoy Bevy American Express Card, and The Platinum Card from American Express.
Location
The location is the whole selling point. It is close to LAX, it runs a free airport shuttle, and it is a reasonable base for getting to the cruise port. For a layover or a pre-cruise night, that proximity is the value, and it is why a lot of travelers pick a Four Points near an airport in the first place.
One fair note on the shuttle: airport shuttles at LAX hotels can be hit or miss on timing during busy stretches, so leave yourself a buffer rather than counting on it to the minute. When it runs, it is a genuine convenience and it saves you a rideshare fare. Just do not cut your timing too fine.
Lobby and Check-In
The lobby is functional and straightforward, exactly what you expect from a select-service airport hotel. Check-in was quick and the staff were pleasant. There is nothing fancy here, but nothing off-putting either. It reads as clean and practical, which is the right tone for the price point.
This is a place built for turnover, with a steady flow of travelers coming and going at all hours. The operation is set up for that, and check-in reflected it: efficient, no fuss, and quick to get you to your room.
The Room
Here is where I have to be straight with you. My room was not fully made up when I arrived. There was a pillowcase left sitting on one of the beds, which is a small thing but a telling one, because it means the housekeeping pass was not finished or not checked before the room was released. On a one-night stay I let it go, but it is the kind of detail that shapes your first impression of a hotel. In my case, housekeeping left a bare pillowcase sitting on the bed with no pillow in it, so I ended up with three pillows instead of four. A small thing, but it told me nobody gave the room a final look before check-in. Specifically, housekeeping left a pillowcase on the bed with no pillow inside it, so I had three pillows instead of four. Small thing, but it set the tone.
Setting that aside, the room itself was fine for a layover. It was a standard room with the basic comforts you need to sleep and shower before an early departure. The bed was adequate, the bathroom worked, and it was quiet enough to rest. It is a functional room, not a comfortable retreat, and that is the right way to think about it. Mine was clean, and the runway view from the top floor of the tower was a real perk. Just pack earplugs: the property opens onto several streets and I could hear every takeoff plus plenty of street noise. The bathroom is also showing its age, with a walk-in tub and shower combo and a mattress that has seen better days. We were on the top floor and did get a fun runway view, and to be fair the public spaces feel much newer than the rooms, including a nice little lounge nook with overhead windows where you can read while waiting for the shuttle. There is even an unused payphone bank in the hallway, which tells you roughly when this building last saw a real renovation.
Pools and Amenities
Amenities are limited, as you would expect at a budget airport hotel. There is a fitness room and the standard select-service basics, but this is not a property you book for the facilities. Nobody is choosing a Four Points by the airport for a pool day. A couple of extras did surprise me. There is a guest laundry room just past the elevator bank, which is a gift on a longer trip, and the small gym had older equipment but was better than I expected. The pool area looked genuinely nice, though at 56 degrees I was never getting in, and the restaurant stays open until 1 am if you land late and need dinner or a drink.
The one amenity that actually matters here is the free airport shuttle, and I have already covered that. Everything else is secondary. If amenities are what you care about, this is not your hotel, and it does not pretend to be.
Food and Drink
Food is where the budget nature of the property shows most clearly. Breakfast is available but it is paid, with no complimentary elite breakfast, so factor that cost in if you plan to eat here. It is a serviceable option to grab something before you travel, not a meal you book the hotel for.
For a layover this is easy enough to work around. There are food options near LAX, and if you have an early flight or an early cruise embarkation you may skip the hotel breakfast entirely and eat at the airport or the port. Just do not expect a free spread waiting for you as a Marriott elite.
Service
Service was pleasant enough at the front desk, and I did not have any real friction with the staff. That said, the unfinished room on arrival points to a gap somewhere between housekeeping and the desk, and it is the sort of thing that separates a well-run hotel from a merely adequate one.
For a budget airport property, the service was in line with the price. Nobody went above and beyond, but nobody made the stay harder than it needed to be. It is a transactional experience, and for a one-night stopover that is acceptable. Do pack earplugs though. The building opens onto several streets and I could hear every takeoff and all the street noise from my room. No hotel this close to LAX is silent, but this one especially so.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Four Points by Sheraton LAX good for a layover?
For a basic one-night stopover, yes. It is cheap, close to LAX, and runs a free airport shuttle. Just set your expectations for a budget crash pad rather than a comfortable stay.
Does it have a free airport shuttle?
Yes, there is a free shuttle to and from LAX. Airport shuttles can run late during busy periods, so leave yourself a time buffer rather than cutting it fine.
Is breakfast free for Marriott elites?
No. This is a select-service Four Points, so there is no complimentary elite breakfast. Breakfast is available but paid, so budget for it if you plan to eat here.
Does the stay earn Bonvoy points and elite nights?
Yes. It is a full Marriott Bonvoy property, so you earn points and an elite night toward status, which is part of why it is a sensible cheap layover pick. A few underrated positives: there is a guest laundry room right past the elevator bank, which is gold on a longer trip, a gift shop for last minute souvenirs, and a small gym with older equipment that was still better than I expected for a quick pre-flight workout.
Was there anything wrong with the room?
My room was not fully made up on arrival, with a pillowcase left on one of the beds. It was a minor issue on a one-night stay, but it is the kind of detail worth knowing before you book.
Should I book this hotel near LAX?
If you want the cheapest Marriott near the airport and just need a place to sleep, it works. If you are particular about clean rooms and want elite perks like free breakfast, look at a higher-tier Marriott nearby instead.
Bottom Line
The Four Points by Sheraton LAX is what it says on the tin: a cheap, functional Marriott near the airport with a free shuttle, good for banking Bonvoy points and an elite night before a flight or cruise. It did the basic job for my pre-cruise layover, and for that narrow purpose it was fine.
The misses are real, though, and I will not paper over them. Paid breakfast with no elite benefit, and a room that was not fully cleaned when I arrived, are the reasons I would only recommend this as a budget crash pad. Book it with your expectations set right and you will not be disappointed. If you want comfort, amenities, or elite treatment, spend a little more at a nicer Marriott nearby.
