Hyatt Palm Springs: A Reasonably Priced Award Option in the Desert

As a Hyatt Globalist, I have had the pleasure of staying in numerous Hyatt properties worldwide, and my recent stay at the Hyatt Palm Springs provided a lot of value on an expensive weekend during the Indian Wells tennis tournament. Located in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, this luxury hotel offers great service, comfortable (if dated) accommodations, and a range of other amenities that cater to travelers. In this Hyatt Palm Springs review, I will share my experience and highlight reasons why you might consider this hotel on your next trip.

Location and Ambience

The Hyatt Palm Springs is strategically situated in the bustling downtown area, surrounded by a myriad of restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues. The hotel's chic and modern design is from a different time in the desert, with a large atrium that caters to the major events that occur in the city each year. Location is clearly one of the best features of this hotel.

Globalist Benefits

As a Hyatt Globalist, I was delighted to receive several perks that made my stay even more enjoyable. Upon check-in, I was greeted with a warm welcome of wine and cheese and upgraded to a gigantic suite (larger than a standard suite) with a private balcony, offering breathtaking views of the San Jacinto Mountains. Complimentary breakfast was available each morning, as usual for Globalists, but overall food quality wasn’t great. There’s no lounge to use on property. In addition, valet parking was included for me on an award stay, which saved me over $45 a night.

Accommodations

The Hyatt Palm Springs boasts a wide range of room options, including well-appointed standard rooms and luxurious suites. My upgraded suite was very dated, but huge and featured a plush king-sized bed, a separate living area with a sofa bed, a wet bar, and a spacious bathroom. See the video for the full rundown. Other options at the hotel include suites with a pool-side cabana, which I recommend during the warmer months.

Amenities

The Hyatt Palm Springs offers an array of amenities to enhance guests' experiences. The outdoor pool area, surrounded by towering palm trees, is an idyllic spot for sunbathing and taking a refreshing dip in the pool. A hot tub is also available for guests to unwind after a day of exploring the city. The on-site fitness center is very small but equipped with machines and free weights. Finally, the hotel offers free bike rentals as part of their “destination fee” which was waived for me as a Globalist as well (and for everyone staying on Hyatt points).

Dining

The Hyatt Palm Springs features two on-site dining options: SHARE Small Plate Bistro and HooDoo Cocktail Garden. SHARE Small Plate Bistro offers a menu of shareable dishes, perfect for enjoying with friends or family, but I didn’t get to try it outside of breakfast. HooDoo Cocktail Garden is an outdoor patio bar and lounge, where diners can enjoy some craft beers and people watch on the downtown streets beyond.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, my stay at the Hyatt Palm Springs was fine, and good value, though the hotel needs a desperate renovation. The hotel's prime location is its best feature- just know what you’re getting into before booking!
