The hotel sits in Water Street Tampa, a master-planned downtown neighborhood along the waterfront that has filled in with restaurants, bars, and green space. You are steps from the Tampa Riverwalk, Amalie Arena, and the Sparkman Wharf dining area, so a lot of what you would want to do is walkable.
Beyond the immediate district, you are a short drive or ride from Ybor City, the Tampa Convention Center, and the aquarium. Tampa International Airport is roughly fifteen to twenty minutes out depending on traffic, which makes this an easy pick for a quick city stay or a business trip.
What I like most about the location is that it solves the classic downtown problem of nothing being within walking distance. Here you can park the car and spend a full evening on foot, moving between the Riverwalk, dinner, and a game or show at Amalie Arena. That kind of walkability is rare in Florida city centers. I was there pre-cruise and literally walked from the front door to the port. Service matched the JW badge across my stay. The team was attentive and professional, my elite recognition was handled without me having to ask, and requests were taken care of promptly. For a large downtown hotel, it kept a personal touch.
A property this new and this popular does get busy at the rooftop pool and the marquee restaurants during peak times, so a little patience helps at the busiest hours. Even so, the staff kept things moving and the experience felt gracious throughout.
If I were pushing for one improvement, it would be smoothing out those peak-time crowds up on the pool deck, where the best cabanas and loungers go fast. It is the natural cost of a hotel that gets this much demand, and it did not take away from the stay. Time your pool visit around the busiest window and you will barely notice.
