San Diego Cruise Port Guide: Terminals, Parking, Hotels, and Getting There

The San Diego cruise port is one of the easiest places in the country to start a cruise. Both terminals sit on the downtown Embarcadero, the airport is about two miles up North Harbor Drive, and the train station is two blocks away. Most of the planning comes down to picking the right parking lot and knowing which pier your ship uses.

The 2026 to 2027 season is also the busiest San Diego has seen in more than 15 years, according to the Port of San Diego's September 2026 season announcement. Royal Caribbean announced its first San Diego-based ship for this season, Disney has two ships in port this winter, and Holland America, Princess, and Norwegian are all sailing from the same two piers. More ships means busier embarkation mornings, so the details below are worth a few minutes before you go.

San Diego Cruise Terminals: B Street Pier vs. Broadway Pier

The B Street Pier and Cruise Ship Terminal is the main homeport building and handles most embarkations. It has a North and South berth, which is how San Diego can turn two ships on the same day. Disney's 2026 agreement with the port gives Disney priority access to both B Street berths, so if you are sailing Disney, expect B Street.

The Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier sits one pier south at the foot of Broadway. It also has a visitor center, and it takes overflow and visiting ships when B Street is full. Your boarding documents will name the terminal. The two buildings are close enough to walk between, but they have separate drop-off lanes, so give your driver the right address.

If you have sailed from PortMiami's terminals, San Diego will feel small and calm by comparison.

Which Cruise Lines Sail From the San Diego Cruise Port in 2026 and 2027

San Diego is mostly a fall, winter, and spring homeport. Ships reposition here from Alaska in the fall and head back north in the spring, so a June sailing from San Diego is rare. This is the lineup for the 2026 to 2027 season, based on the port and the cruise lines.

Disney Cruise Line in San Diego

Disney extended its San Diego agreement through at least 2031, which the port says will roughly double Disney's annual sailings. The Disney Wonder homeports from October 2026 to April 2027 on 3 to 7 night sailings, and the Disney Magic joins in October 2026 for short sailings through November before a Panama Canal crossing. Ports include Catalina Island, Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, and Puerto Vallarta.

Royal Caribbean in San Diego

This is Royal Caribbean's first season with a ship based in San Diego. When the line announced the move, it named Serenade of the Seas for 3, 4, and 7 night Mexico cruises from October 2026 to April 2027, visiting Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, and La Paz. Confirm the ship and dates on your booking, since deployments can shift after an announcement. For West Coast travelers, that is a Royal Caribbean weekend without a flight to Florida.

Holland America and Princess Cruises in San Diego

Holland America runs Koningsdam and Zaandam roundtrip from San Diego from September 2026 through April 2027. The 7 day trips call at Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas, and the 10 to 12 day trips add Sea of Cortez ports like Loreto and La Paz. Holland America also offers a 7 day California Coast roundtrip with Avalon, an overnight in San Francisco, and Ensenada.

Princess opened the season on September 14, 2026, when Ruby Princess docked at B Street for a California Coast sailing. If you are comparing fares, you can check current Princess Cruises offers before you decide.

Norwegian is back for a second San Diego season, and MSC, Virgin Voyages, Silversea, and Viking all call during the year. For what the Mexico ports look like once you arrive, start with my Mexican Riviera cruise guide.

What Time To Arrive at the San Diego Cruise Port

The Port of San Diego's own advice is short: arrive at your assigned boarding time, and do not arrive before 10 a.m. The terminals are small, so there is nowhere comfortable to wait if you show up at 9 with your bags. Check-in windows are set by the cruise line, so book the earliest slot you can when online check-in opens.

Pro Tip: Tell your rideshare or taxi driver to drop you beyond the gate, on the pier itself. The port says this avoids the longest line, which forms when drivers stop on North Harbor Drive and passengers walk the rest of the way with luggage.

Print your luggage tags and staple them on before you leave the hotel, as the port asks. My embarkation day tips cover the rest of the morning.

San Diego Cruise Port Parking

There is no single port-owned garage at B Street. The Port of San Diego points cruisers to several private operators instead, and each sets its own rates by date, so check the reservation site for your sailing. The options the port lists:

LotDistance to terminalsShuttleVehicle limits
Ace Parking (Wyndham San Diego Bayside, BRIC North and South)Across the streetNot from every locationCheck when booking
ABM surface lots 1043 and 10900.6 milesNoneNo vehicles over 18 feet
ABM Campus at Horton Garage, 800 4th AveUnder 1 mileNoneNothing over 25 feet
Aladdin Airport and Cruise Ship Parking, 2548 Kettner Blvd1.4 milesFree shuttle6 ft 9 in clearance, no high-profile vehicles
ABM Lot 1124, Harbor Island2.5 milesNoneAccepts oversized vehicles
San Diego's Park, Shuttle and Fly, 3405 Pacific Hwy2.8 miles24/7 shuttleNo RVs or oversized vehicles

If you want to walk to the ship, the Ace lots across the street are the obvious pick. If you are driving a large SUV or a truck, read the height limits closely, since Aladdin's covered lot will not take a high-profile vehicle and the closest ABM lots cap length at 18 feet. Drivers from Los Angeles should also compare Long Beach cruise parking, since similar Mexico itineraries leave from there.

Getting to the San Diego Cruise Port From the Airport and Train

From San Diego International Airport, the trip is about two miles and less than ten minutes by car. A taxi or rideshare is the simplest choice with luggage. The port also lists MTS bus Route 992, which runs between the airport and downtown for a standard transit fare.

Regional trains stop at Santa Fe Depot, two blocks east of the terminals, so travelers coming from up the coast can ride in and walk to the pier without paying for a week of parking.

San Diego Cruise Port Hotels the Night Before

Flying in the day of a San Diego cruise is a gamble I tell clients not to take. One delayed connection leaves almost no margin, and a night downtown removes that risk.

Hotels along the Embarcadero and in Little Italy are the closest to the piers, and many are a short walk. I reviewed the Andaz San Diego downtown, and for a beach stay first, my Hyatt Regency Mission Bay review covers a resort option. I can book the hotel, the parking, and the cruise as one trip, which makes it much easier to rebook if a flight goes sideways.

Things To Do Near the San Diego Cruise Port

The Embarcadero is a good place to spend a few hours before boarding or after you get off the ship. The USS Midway Museum and the Maritime Museum's historic ships are on the waterfront, Seaport Village and Little Italy are close by, and Balboa Park is a short ride for a longer pre-cruise day.

If you would rather have someone else plan it, harbor cruises, Old Town tours, and La Jolla trips can all be booked through Viator. On debarkation day, choose a tour that handles luggage.

Once you are on board, your first stop on most of these itineraries is Baja. My guides to things to do in Ensenada and things to do in Cabo on a cruise cover the most common stops.

San Diego Cruise Port Documents for Mexico Sailings

Almost every cruise out of San Diego visits Mexico. The port tells passengers to bring a picture ID, the boarding document, and a passport or birth certificate. A birth certificate and photo ID generally works for US citizens on a roundtrip closed-loop sailing, but I recommend a passport for every client. If something goes wrong in Cabo and you need to fly home, a birth certificate will not get you on that plane. My guide to whether you need a passport for a cruise walks through the details.

Booking a Cruise From the San Diego Cruise Port

With five lines homeporting in San Diego this winter, the same week can price very differently depending on the ship. My pricing is the same as booking direct, and I can often add group rates or promotions that do not show up on the cruise line's site. You also get one person to call when a flight cancels the night before. Send me your dates, and I will compare the San Diego sailings side by side, then price the hotel and parking with them.
