Galveston Cruise Port Embarkation Guide: Terminals and What To Expect
The Port of Galveston now runs four cruise terminals, and the single most useful thing to know before you drive onto the island is which one your ship uses. Royal Caribbean sails from Cruise Terminal 10, Carnival from Cruise Terminal 25, Disney from Cruise Terminal 28, and MSC and Norwegian share the newest building, Cruise Terminal 16, which opened in November 2025.
All four sit along the same stretch of Harborside Drive, between the 1400 and 2700 blocks, so a wrong turn costs you minutes rather than hours. The bigger risks in Galveston are the drive from Houston, embarkation-day traffic on the causeway, and parking in a lot that serves a different terminal than yours. This guide covers each terminal, how arrival works, where to park, and how I would plan the day.
Galveston Cruise Terminal Key Facts
| Terminal | Address | Cruise lines |
| Cruise Terminal 10 (Pier 10) | 1402 Harborside Drive | Royal Caribbean |
| Cruise Terminal 16 (Pier 16) | 1602 Harborside Drive | MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line |

| Bush Intercontinental (IAH) | About 70 miles | Well over an hour by car, longer at rush hour |
The port expects about 445 sailings and 3.9 million passenger movements in 2026, which makes Galveston the fourth-busiest cruise port in the country.
Galveston Cruise Terminals and Which Cruise Lines Use Them
The terminals are numbered after the piers they sit on. Go by the terminal named in your cruise line's app or boarding pass, and put the street address in your GPS rather than the terminal name.
Cruise Terminal 10: Royal Caribbean in Galveston
Cruise Terminal 10 at Pier 10 is Royal Caribbean's Galveston home, and the port bills it as the first net-zero energy cruise terminal in the world. It sits at the east end of the cruise piers, closest to downtown and the Strand. Royal Caribbean sails year-round from Galveston with large ships and has announced that Icon of the Seas moves to Galveston in August 2027. My Allure of the Seas review covers one of the Oasis-class ships that has sailed from this terminal.
Cruise Terminal 16: MSC and Norwegian in Galveston
Cruise Terminal 16 is the newest building at the port. It opened in November 2025 when MSC Seascape arrived to start year-round seven-night Western Caribbean sailings on Sundays, calling at Costa Maya, Cozumel, and Roatan. Norwegian Cruise Line shares the terminal. If you are sailing MSC, my MSC Seascape review covers the ship itself.
Cruise Terminals 25 and 28: Carnival, Disney, and Princess in Galveston
Cruise Terminal 25 is Carnival's base and also handles select Disney and Princess sailings. Cruise Terminal 28 next door is Disney's primary terminal. These two sit at the west end of the cruise piers, across Harborside Drive from several of the port's main lots. Carnival keeps expanding in Galveston, and I wrote about Carnival Jubilee's short cruises from Galveston in 2028 if you are watching that line.
Princess only uses Galveston for select sailings, so if one of those dates fits your calendar, check the current Princess Cruises offers before you commit to a Galveston departure on another line.
Galveston Cruise Terminal Arrival Times and Boarding
Every line that sails from Galveston asks you to complete online check-in and pick an arrival time in its app. Arrive inside that window. Showing up an hour early usually means waiting outside the terminal in the Texas sun, and showing up late on a four-ship day means joining the back of a long line.
The drive is the variable you control least. Interstate 45 and the Galveston Causeway are the main route from Houston, and nearly every cruise passenger driving in from the city uses them. On a morning when several ships are in port, I would build in a cushion of at least an hour on top of the normal drive time. My embarkation day tips cover what to keep in your carry-on and what to do in the first hour on board, and my cruise documents guide covers the ID you need at the terminal for a closed-loop Western Caribbean sailing.
Pro Tip: Check the port's cruise schedule for your sailing date before you choose an arrival time. If all four terminals have a ship that day, take the earliest arrival slot you can get and plan to eat lunch on the ship.
Galveston Cruise Terminal Drop-Off and Luggage
Each terminal has a curbside drop-off lane on Harborside Drive where porters take checked bags. The easiest pattern for a family with a car is to drop people and luggage at the terminal first, then park and walk or shuttle back. That way nobody is dragging suitcases across a lot. If a friend or rideshare is dropping you off, give them the terminal address, not "the cruise port", because the four buildings are spread out along the waterfront.
Tag every checked bag with the luggage tag from your line's app or printed documents, keep medications, documents, and swimsuits in your carry-on, and expect checked bags to reach your cabin sometime in the afternoon.
Galveston Cruise Terminal Parking by Terminal
The port runs its own lots for every terminal, and the key is to park at the lot assigned to your terminal. The port recommends booking parking online in advance for the best rates, and rates are charged per day.
| Terminal | Port lot | Spaces | Getting to the terminal |
| Terminals 25 and 28 | Express Lot | 680 | Steps from Terminal 28 |
| Terminals 25 and 28 | SMP Garage (six levels, covered) | 400 | Walk |
| Terminals 25 and 28 | Economy Lots A and B | 850 and 1,250 | Free shuttle |
| Terminal 10 | North Premium Lot (solar-covered) | 100 | Walk |
| Terminal 10 | North Lot and South Lot | 550 and 660 | Walk, or free shuttle from the South Lot |
| Terminal 16 | Covered garage and open lots | Not published per lot | Varies by lot |
My Galveston cruise parking guide compares the port lots with the private lots and hotel park-and-cruise deals, which can work out cheaper on a seven-night sailing.
Getting to the Galveston Cruise Terminal From Houston
Galveston has no commercial airport, so fly-in cruisers land at Hobby (HOU) or Bush Intercontinental (IAH). Hobby is the closer of the two at about 45 miles. IAH is about 70 miles away, and the drive runs straight through Houston traffic. Your options are a shared shuttle, a private car, rideshare, a cruise line transfer, or a one-way rental. I break down each one with sourced prices in my guide to getting from Houston airports to the Galveston cruise port.
My advice for anyone flying in is the same as for any drive-to port: arrive the day before. A delayed flight into IAH on the morning of departure leaves almost no margin once you add the drive to the island.
Galveston Cruise Hotels the Night Before
Staying on the island puts you minutes from the terminals and off the causeway on embarkation morning. My roundup of hotels near the Galveston cruise port covers which properties offer park-and-cruise packages and shuttles, and my Hilton Galveston Island Resort review is the one to read if you want a beachfront night before you sail.
When I book a Galveston cruise, I price the hotel, parking, and sailing together at no extra cost to you, which is the simplest way to avoid paying for port parking you did not need because your hotel already included it.
Things To Do in Galveston Before or After Your Cruise
If you arrive a day early or have a late flight after you get back, the Strand Historic District and the Pier 21 waterfront are a short ride from every terminal, and Seawall Boulevard runs along the Gulf beaches on the other side of the island. For guided options, from harbor tours to day trips to Space Center Houston on the way to or from the airport, browse what is available and book this on Viator.
On the way home, plan for the same causeway traffic in reverse. Ships return early in the morning, and my cruise disembarkation guide explains how to pick a debarkation time that fits your flight.
Where Galveston Cruises Go
Most Galveston sailings head to the Western Caribbean, which means Cozumel, Costa Maya, Roatan, and similar ports. My Western Caribbean cruise guide covers the ports and the best time of year to go. If you are comparing homeports, my PortMiami embarkation guide and Port Everglades embarkation guide cover the Florida alternatives.
Galveston Cruise Terminal: Frequently Asked Questions
Which Galveston cruise terminal does Royal Caribbean use? Royal Caribbean sails from Cruise Terminal 10 at Pier 10, 1402 Harborside Drive. It is the easternmost of the four cruise terminals.
Which Galveston cruise terminal does Carnival use? Carnival uses Cruise Terminal 25 at 2502 Harborside Drive. Disney's primary terminal, Cruise Terminal 28, is next door, and the two share the same group of port lots.
Where do MSC and Norwegian sail from in Galveston? Both use Cruise Terminal 16 at 1602 Harborside Drive, the newest terminal at the port, which opened in November 2025 with MSC Seascape.
How early should I get to the Galveston cruise terminal? Arrive inside the boarding window you chose during online check-in, and build at least an extra hour into the drive from Houston on a busy Sunday or Saturday.
Can I fly into Houston and cruise from Galveston the same day? It is possible from Hobby with an early flight, but I do not recommend it. The drive from IAH alone can take well over an hour, so flying in the day before is the safer plan.
Book Your Galveston Cruise With Jackson Jetsetting
My pricing is the same as booking direct with the cruise line. On top of that, I can often add group rates or promotions that are not on the cruise line's website, and you have a real person to call when a flight into Houston cancels or your plans change. Send me your dates, and I will price the sailing, the hotel the night before, and parking as one trip.
