Virgin Voyages Brilliant Lady Alaska: My Full Guide to the 2026 Season
My first-hand take on sailing Virgin Voyages' newest ship to Alaska — the 7-night round-trip Seattle itinerary, what's included, who this adults-only cruise is for, and whether it's worth booking over a traditional Alaska line.

I have reviewed cruise ships and resorts in more than 95 countries, and when Virgin Voyages announced it was bringing Brilliant Lady to Alaska for the 2026 season, I booked a sailing the first week it opened. An adults-only, tip-included ship running the Inside Passage is a new option up here, and after years of Alaska sailings on the big traditional lines, I wanted to see how Virgin's whole approach translates to glaciers and bald eagles instead of the Caribbean.

Brilliant Lady, in Brief
Brilliant Lady is the fourth ship in the Virgin Voyages fleet, joining Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, and Resilient Lady. (If you want to see how the ships stack up, I break down the fleet by size here.) She was built by Fincantieri in Italy, floated out in late 2022, and entered service in September 2025 after a long delay. She carries roughly 2,770 guests at double occupancy with a crew of around 1,150, which puts her in the mid-to-large range: big enough for 20-plus places to eat and drink, small enough that she never feels like a floating city.
Here is the detail that matters for Alaska. Brilliant Lady is the only ship in Virgin's fleet built to fit through the Panama Canal, which is what let Virgin reposition her to the West Coast and launch a Pacific Northwest and Alaska program at all. She is homeported in Seattle for the summer, running seven- to twelve-night itineraries into Alaska and British Columbia through September 2026.

The 7-Night Alaska Itinerary from Seattle
My sailing is the 7-night round-trip from Seattle departing Thursday, July 23, 2026. Virgin runs this itinerary on a weekly Thursday cadence through the summer, so if my dates do not work, the structure below will look nearly identical to yours.
Here is how the week lays out (times are representative of this itinerary; confirm the exact hours on your own booking, because Virgin does adjust them):
- Day 1 — Thursday: Depart Seattle (Pier 91) in the early evening
- Day 2 — Friday: Cruising the Inside Passage (a scenic sea day)
- Day 3 — Saturday: Ketchikan (roughly 9 a.m.–5 p.m.)
- Day 4 — Sunday: Sitka (roughly 9 a.m.–4 p.m.)
- Day 5 — Monday: Glacier scenic cruising — Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier (the itinerary formerly said Tracy Arm — more below)
- Day 6 — Tuesday: Prince Rupert, British Columbia (an afternoon-into-evening call, roughly noon–8 p.m.)
- Day 7 — Wednesday: At Sea
- Day 8 — Thursday: Arrive back in Seattle in the early morning
A few notes on the ports. Ketchikan is the classic Southeast Alaska town of totems, salmon, and Creek Street, with some of the best flightseeing in the state. Sitka is my favorite of the three, with an unusual mix of Russian and Tlingit history plus wildlife right outside town. Prince Rupert is in Canada, and it is on the itinerary partly for a legal reason (a U.S. round-trip cruise has to call at one foreign port), but it turned out to be a worthwhile stop. About that glacier day: it is Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier
Your itinerary probably says Tracy Arm Fjord, but that changed. After a major glacier collapse and landslide in Tracy Arm in August 2025, several cruise lines, Virgin among them, moved their 2026 glacier days to the neighboring Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier. My sailing now does Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier. They are next-door fjords, both tidewater-glacier experiences, and most guests will not know which one they got. I would rather you hear it from me than be surprised on Monday morning. I cover both in my glacier day guide.
What Makes This Different From a Traditional Alaska Cruise
If you have done Alaska on Princess, Holland America, or Royal Caribbean, Brilliant Lady will feel like a different category of trip. Three things stand out.
It is adults-only. The entire ship is 18 and over. No kids, no water slides, but also no crowds of strollers at the glacier and no chaos at dinner. For couples, friend groups, and solo travelers, the calm is the point.
Tips are included, and so is a lot else. Virgin folds gratuities into the fare, so there is no daily auto-gratuity at the end. Your fare also covers all the restaurants (there is no main-dining-room-versus-specialty split), basic WiFi, group fitness classes, and non-alcoholic basics. There is no casino, no formal night, and no assigned dining. You eat when you want, where you want, in what you want. It is closer to a boutique hotel with good restaurants than a traditional cruise.
Is Virgin Voyages Worth It for Alaska?
My answer depends on who you are.
Book it if you are an adult traveling with other adults, you care about food and a good bar more than kids' clubs and production shows, and you want Alaska's scenery without the big-cruise feeling. Because every restaurant is included and tips and WiFi are in the fare, the price you book is close to the price you pay.
Skip it if you are traveling with kids or grandkids (they cannot sail), you specifically want Glacier Bay National Park with rangers aboard (Virgin uses Tracy Arm/Endicott Arm instead, not Glacier Bay), or you want a big casino-and-show cruise. What to Pack (Short Version)
Alaska in July is milder than people expect, with highs in the low 60s in the ports, but it is wet. Ketchikan is one of the rainiest towns in the U.S. Bring layers, a waterproof shell, comfortable walking shoes, and binoculars for the glacier day. Because you spend a day in Canada at Prince Rupert, bring your passport even though a closed-loop cruise technically allows a birth certificate. Brilliant Lady brings something Alaska has not really had: a stylish, adults-only ship where the tips and restaurants are already paid for and the week is built around adults enjoying the scenery in peace. The 7-night Seattle loop hits Ketchikan, Sitka, a glacier day, and Prince Rupert, and it is an easy fly-into-Seattle week. If that sounds like your kind of Alaska, it is an easy recommendation. Go in knowing it is 18-plus, it is not Glacier Bay, and you should confirm your exact glacier and port times on your booking.
