Cruise Line Private Islands Ranked: Which One Is Best?
Perfect Day at CocoCay is the best cruise line private island in the Caribbean right now, with Castaway Cay a close second and Carnival's Celebration Key moving up fast. That ranking comes from five things I weigh for every client: whether the ship docks at a pier, how much is included in the fare, how much there is to do, how crowded it feels for its size, and how well it works for families.
The private destination on your itinerary can make or break a short Bahamas cruise. It is often the only beach day on the trip, and the gap between the best and the most basic is wide. Below is my full ranking of nine destinations, plus a note on why Labadee is left off this year.

How I Ranked the Cruise Line Private Islands
A pier counts for a lot. When a ship docks, everyone walks off when they like, the day runs longer, and bad weather rarely cancels the stop. Tender islands lose time to boat lines and get skipped more often when the sea is rough.
Inclusions come next: food, water, loungers, and the main beach and pool areas you get without paying again. After that I look at range (how many different kinds of day you can have), crowding relative to the space, and family features such as splash pads, shallow water, and kids' clubs. Paid extras like waterparks and beach clubs count in an island's favor only if the free day is still good without them.
1. Perfect Day at CocoCay: Best Cruise Line Private Island Overall
Royal Caribbean's island in the Berry Islands has the widest range of any private destination. Ships dock at the pier, the free areas include beaches, the large Oasis Lagoon pool, the Splashaway Bay kids' splash zone, and several included food venues. The paid side adds Thrill Waterpark, the Coco Beach Club, and the adults-only Hideaway Beach.
The reason it ranks first is the free day. A family can spend eight hours on CocoCay without spending another dollar and still have a full day. My Perfect Day at CocoCay guide breaks down every area, and the Hideaway Beach update covers the adults-only side.
2. Castaway Cay: Best Disney Cruise Line Private Island
Castaway Cay is the most polished island on this list. Ships dock at the pier, lunch is included, and Disney's kids' programming continues ashore. Adults have Serenity Bay, a separate beach that is a tram ride away from the family areas. It loses to CocoCay only on range, since there is less for teens and thrill seekers.
My Castaway Cay guide covers the full day, and if you are choosing between lines, my CocoCay vs. Castaway Cay comparison puts the two side by side.
3. Celebration Key: Best Carnival Private Destination
Celebration Key on Grand Bahama is Carnival Corporation's newest destination, built with a pier that takes two ships at once and a set of themed areas called portals. The included side centers on very large freshwater lagoons and beaches, with paid beach clubs and cabanas layered on top. It is the main reason Carnival and Princess are pulling ships away from their older Bahamas stops.
It ranks below Castaway Cay because it is still new and busy on two-ship days. My Celebration Key guide walks through each portal.
4. Great Stirrup Cay: Most Improved Cruise Line Private Island
Norwegian rebuilt Great Stirrup Cay over 2025 and 2026. The pier opened in December 2025, ending years of tendering, and the heated, 1.4-acre Great Life Lagoon pool opened the same month. The paid Great Tides Waterpark opened on September 4, 2026, with tickets listed at $89.99 per person on ncl.com as of October 2026, and the island also has the Vibe Shore Club and Silver Cove villas for those who want to pay up.
The big plus is drinks: Norwegian says its Free at Sea beverage package applies across the island. The new Great Stirrup Cay guide covers the pier work and what is included.
5. Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point: Best for Bahamian Culture
Disney's second Bahamas destination sits on Eleuthera and also has a pier. Disney built it around Bahamian art, music, and storytelling, with a long beach and included food. It ranks below Castaway Cay because it is quieter on activities and the walk from the pier to the beach is longer.
My Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point guide covers the layout and tours.
6. Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve: Best for Late Stays
MSC's island near Bimini is a pier stop with eight named beaches, and MSC's own site describes a nightly lighthouse light show and late stays or overnights on many sailings. Yacht Club guests get their own beach area. That evening program is something no other island on this list offers regularly.
It ranks sixth because the range of daytime activities is narrower than the top five. The new Ocean Cay guide covers beaches and drink package rules, and MSC's next island is covered in my MSC Sandy Cay post.
7. RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay: Best Classic Beach
Carnival Corporation renamed Half Moon Cay to RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay in December 2024, and Carnival and Holland America both call. The beach is one of the prettiest on this list. Carnival opened a new pier in June 2026, so guests now walk off the ship instead of tendering, and Carnival says its largest Excel-class ships can call for the first time.
It ranks seventh because the day is mostly beach, with less to do than the islands above it. The pier fixed its biggest weakness, so it may climb once the expanded areas settle in. The new Half Moon Cay guide covers the pier and the paid upgrades.
8. Royal Beach Club Paradise Island: Best Paid Beach Club
Royal Beach Club opened in Nassau in late December 2025. It is a paid add-on in a regular port, with launch prices from $169.99 for the 21+ pass with alcohol, and dynamic pricing since. The pass covers the boat ride, food, and drinks at a club with two beaches and three pools.
It ranks eighth because you pay for everything and give up a day you could spend in Nassau. My Royal Beach Club Paradise Island guide covers who it suits, and if you would rather explore town, you can compare Nassau tours on Viator.
9. Princess Cays: Simplest Cruise Line Private Beach
Princess Cays on the southern tip of Eleuthera is a 40-acre tender beach with an included barbecue, bungalows to rent, and water sports. It is pleasant and quiet, with no pools or waterpark. Trade reports say Princess will drop it from published itineraries after October 17, 2026. Princess has not confirmed that in a release, and Carnival still lists it on some sailings.
If you are comparing current Princess Cruises offers, expect Celebration Key or Half Moon Cay on most Bahamas sailings now. The new Princess Cays guide covers the details.
Why Labadee Is Off the Cruise Line Private Island List
Royal Caribbean's Labadee in Haiti would normally rank near the top. Royal Caribbean suspended calls in 2025 because of unrest and travel advisories in Haiti, and as of October 2026 the pause was reported to run through the end of the year. Until ships return, I leave it out. My older CocoCay vs. Labadee comparison covers what the stop offers when it is running.
Pro Tip: Private island days are the stops most often swapped or skipped for weather. Before you pick a ship for the island, check whether it docks at a pier, and look at the sailing's port list again a few weeks before you go.
Which Cruise Line Private Island Suits Your Trip
For families with kids under 10, I lean toward Castaway Cay or CocoCay. Teens and thrill seekers will get the most from CocoCay or the new waterpark at Great Stirrup Cay. Couples who want a quiet beach do well at Half Moon Cay, Lookout Cay, or Hideaway Beach. Big groups who want a party day should look at Celebration Key or Royal Beach Club. My list of the best cruise lines for families goes further on the ship side.
Cruise Line Private Islands: Frequently Asked Questions

Which cruise line private islands have a pier? As of October 2026, CocoCay, Castaway Cay, Lookout Cay, Celebration Key, Ocean Cay, Great Stirrup Cay, and Half Moon Cay all let ships dock, with Half Moon Cay's pier open since June 2026. Princess Cays is a tender stop.

Do drink packages work on private islands? It depends on the line. Norwegian says Free at Sea applies across Great Stirrup Cay, and other lines set their own rules, so check your package terms before you go ashore.
Booking a Cruise With the Best Private Island Through Jackson Jetsetting
The island on a sailing can change after you book, and I watch those changes so you do not have to. My pricing is the same as booking direct, I can often add group rates or promotions the cruise line's site does not show, and you have a person to call when a port gets swapped. Send me your dates, and I will match you with the ship and island that fit your group.
